Another interpretation: Jacob said, Behold, the covenant of the tribes has been breached. How I labored to establish twelve! All the works of the Holy One, blessed be He, correspond to the twelve tribes: twelve constellations, twelve hours in the day, twelve hours in the night, twelve months, twelve stones on the ephod behold, the covenant of the tribes has been breached. And Jacob did not wish to take a wife and beget a son, because of Laban's oath, "if you take wives besides my daughters," and so forth.
