"And the children of Israel were fruitful and swarmed" (Exodus 1:7). Two Amoraim. One said: if you compare them to the largest of the swarming creatures, this mouse gives birth to six. And if you compare them to the smallest of the swarming creatures, this scorpion gives birth to sixty. "And Joseph died, and all his brothers" (Exodus 1:6), even though they died, their God did not die; this is what is written, "And the children of Israel were fruitful and swarmed." Rabbi Hiyya said: each and every woman of Israel would give birth to six in a single womb, as it is said, "and the land was filled with them" (Exodus 1:7). Rabbi Yohanan said: they filled Egypt.

וּבְנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל פָּרוּ וַיִּשְׁרְצוּ, תְּרֵין אֲמוֹרָאִין, חָד אָמַר אִם לַגָּדוֹל שֶׁבַּשְּׁרָצִים אָתְּ מְדַמֶּה אוֹתָם, הַדָּא עַכְבָּרָא יָלְדָה שִׁתָּא. וְאִם לַקָּטָן שֶׁבַּשְּׁרָצִים אָתְּ מְדַמֶּה אוֹתָם, הַדָּא עַקְרָבָא יָלְדָה שִׁתִּין. וַיָּמָת יוֹסֵף וְכָל אֶחָיו, אַף עַל פִּי שֶׁמֵּתוּ, אֱלֹהֵיהֶם לֹּא מֵת, הֲדָא הוּא דִּכְתִיב וּבְנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל פָּרוּ וַיִּשְׁרְצוּ. רַבִּי חִיָּיא אָמַר, כָּל אַחַת וְאַחַת מִיִּשְׂרָאֵל הָיְתָה יוֹלֶדֶת שִׁשָּׁה בְּכֶרֶס אֶחָד שֶׁנֶּאֱמַר וַתִּמָּלֵא הָאָרֶץ אוֹתָם. אָמַר רַב יוֹחָנָן, מִלְּאוּ אֶת מִצְרַיִם.
