None Shall Go Out Until Morning and the Way of the Patriarchs

"And none of you shall go out from the door of his house until morning" (Exodus 12:22). As it says, "Come, my people, enter your chambers" (Isaiah 26:20) - to teach you that one should enter while it is still good light and go out while it is good light. And so you find that the patriarchs and the prophets conducted themselves in the way of the world (proper conduct). As it says, "And Abraham rose early in the morning" (Genesis 22:3); "And Jacob rose early in the morning"; "And Moses rose early in the morning" (Exodus 34:4); "And Samuel rose early to meet Saul in the morning" (1 Samuel 15:12). And these matters are an argument from minor to major: if the patriarchs and the prophets, who went to do the will of the One who spoke and the world came into being, conducted themselves in the way of the world, how much more so all other people. And so it says, "You make darkness and it is night... the young lions roar after their prey... You give to them, they gather it in" (Psalms 104:20-21,28). And it says, "The sun rises, they are gathered in" - from then onward, "man goes out to his labor" (Psalms 104:22-23). And it says, "How manifold are Your works, O LORD; in wisdom You made them all" (Psalms 104:24).
