Why Only Pure Olive Oil Lights the Sacred Lamp

Yalkut Shimoni on Torah 378:2

"And they shall take to you olive oil" (Exodus 27:20). Not oil of nuts and not oil of radishes, but specifically olive oil, which is light for the world. "Pure olive oil for the light." In the way of the world, if a person has poor oil he burns it in a lamp, but the fine oil he puts into his cooked dishes. In the Temple, however, they did not do so; rather, the pure olive oil they gave for the light, and the second-grade oil they gave for the meal offerings. David said, "For You light my lamp, O LORD" (Psalms 18:29).
