The Wicks Forbidden in the Sanctuary So the Flame Rises on Its Own

Rami bar Hama taught: the wicks concerning which the Sages said one may not kindle with them on the Sabbath, one may not kindle with them in the Sanctuary either, because it is said, "to cause a lamp to burn continually" (Exodus 27:20). He taught the teaching, and he himself explained it: this is so that the flame should rise of itself [when first lit] and not by reason of anything else [not needing coaxing or repeated relighting].
