On the Third Day Before the Eyes of All the People

Mekhilta DeRabbi Shimon Ben Yochai 19:11

"And be ready for the third day" (Exodus 19:11): this teaches that they fixed for themselves a meeting place. "For on the third day the LORD will come down before the eyes of all the people": this teaches that there were no blind ones among them. Rabbi Shimon ben Yehudah, a man of the village of Ikkos, says: From where do you say that if those who came out of Egypt had lacked even one, the Torah would not have been given to them? Scripture says, "For on the third day the LORD will come down before the eyes of all the people." From here we learn that no generation has arisen, and no generation is destined to arise, as fit to receive the Torah as this one. And of them it says, "He stores up sound wisdom for the upright; He is a shield to those who walk in integrity" (Proverbs 2:7).
