"You shall make for yourself no molten gods" (Exodus 34:17). Behold, if a man eats from their sacrifice, he comes to take from their daughters, and they lead him astray, and he comes to serve idols. "You shall make for yourself" — not even for ornament. "You shall make for yourself no molten gods. The feast of unleavened bread you shall keep" (Exodus 34:18). From here the Sages said: whoever degrades the appointed festivals is as one who has attached himself to idolatry.
