Three Women Who Died Giving Birth in Midrash Shmuel

Midrash Shmuel 11:3

"And his daughter-in-law, the wife of Phinehas, etc." (1 Samuel 4:19). It was taught: Three women died while giving birth — our mother Rachel, the daughter-in-law of Eli, and Michal the daughter of Saul. Our mother Rachel: "And it came to pass, as her soul was departing, for she died, that she called his name" (Genesis 35:18). And does she speak while she is dead? Rather, she died and did not die. The daughter-in-law of Eli: "And she bowed down and gave birth, for her pains turned upon her" (1 Samuel 4:19). And as for Michal the daughter of Saul, she had no child until the day of her death (2 Samuel 6:23). Rabbi Yehuda bar Simon said: Until the day of her death she had none, but on the day of her death she had [one]. This is what is written: "And the sixth, Ithream, by Eglah" (1 Chronicles 3:3). And why was her name called Eglah? Rabbi Yudah bar Rabbi Simon said: Because she lowed and died like a calf.
