Jacob Buys the Birthright and the Thousand-Year Day

Midrash Tanchuma Buber, Toldot 4:3

(Genesis 25:31:) "And Jacob said: Sell me your birthright as of today." He said to him: Is it the birthright that you seek? Do you seek my share in the world to come? He said to him: I do not know whether you have a share in the world to come, but sell me the birthright, which is publicly known as of today. "Sell me... as of today." Rabbi Acha said: Whoever knows how to [calculate] properly knows that Israel took in this world only a thousand years, for a day of the Holy One, blessed be He, is a thousand years, as it is said (Psalms 90:4): "For a thousand years [in Your sight are but as yesterday when it is past, and as a watch in the night]."
