Torah Walks the Path of the Righteous Guarded by Law

Pesikta DeRav Kahana 12:8

"I walk in the way of righteousness, in the midst of the paths of justice" (Proverbs 8:20). The Torah says: on which path am I to be found? On the road of those who do righteousness. "In the midst of the paths of justice" (Proverbs 8:20). Rabbi Huna said: like the armed escort of a noblewoman, when she passes through the marketplace there is sword and weapon before her and sword and weapon behind her. So it is with the Torah: there are laws before it and laws behind it. Laws before it, "There He set for them a statute and an ordinance" (Exodus 15:25). And laws behind it, "And these are the ordinances that you shall set before them" (Exodus 21:1).
