Prepare Provisions, a Call to Repent Before Entering the Land

Yalkut Shimoni on Nach 7:2

"Prepare provisions for yourselves" (Joshua 1:11). But did they need provisions there? They were eaters of the manna, who gathered it morning after morning. Rather, thus he said to them: do repentance, so that you may enter the Land and eat of the produce of the Land, as it is said, "And the manna ceased on the next day" (Joshua 5:12). An angel went out to destroy the whole world. He said, the manna has ceased and the Torah has ceased, as it is said, "And it came to pass when Joshua was by Jericho..." (Joshua 5:13). He said to him: as for Joshua, are you indeed shod in shoes and not conducting yourself properly? But concerning Israel, for whom the manna has ceased and the Torah has ceased, remove your shoe (Joshua 5:15). Therefore I was saying: happy is the man who increases sitting and toil over Torah and reduces commerce, and sits and meditates on words of Torah every single day.
