Moses Weighed Against All of Israel at the Sea

Yalkut Shimoni on Torah 241:8

"Moses and the children of Israel" - Moses was equal to Israel and Israel equal to Moses at the hour when they recited the song. Another interpretation: "Moses and the children of Israel" tells that Moses recited the song over against all Israel, for the whole world is Yours and You have no people but Israel, as it is said, "this people I formed for Myself" (Isaiah 43:21). And so it says, "sixty are the queens" (Song of Songs 6:8) - these are the six hundred thousand from twenty years old and upward; "and eighty concubines" - these are the eighty myriads from twenty years old and downward; "and maidens without number" - these are the little ones who cannot be counted. Even so, "one is my dove, my perfect one" - this is Moses, who is weighed against them all. And once Rabbi was sitting and expounding that a single woman in Egypt bore six hundred thousand. A certain disciple spoke up before him and said: Rabbi, which is greater, the world or the righteous one? He said to him: The righteous one. Why? He said to him: Because when Jochebed, the mother of Moses, bore Moses, he was weighed against them all. And where do we find that he is weighed against them all? As it is said, "which Moses and the children of Israel commanded" (Numbers 26:4), and it says "then sang Moses and the children of Israel," and "there has not arisen a prophet since in Israel like Moses." "And they spoke, saying" - what is "saying"? It is to declare to the generations the miracles that the Holy One, blessed be He, performed with Israel.
