Every Israelite Worthy of Miracles for His Own Sake

Mekhilta DeRabbi Shimon Ben Yochai 13:7

"And you shall tell your child" (Exodus 13:8) — even though he did not ask you. I know this only when one has a son; when a man is by himself, and when he is among others, how do I know he must still tell? Scripture says, "And you shall tell." "Because of this the LORD acted for me when I went out of Egypt" (Exodus 13:8) — "this" applies for all the time that the substance of the Passover offering still exists [while the matzah and bitter herbs lie before you]. "Acted for me" — one might think it was only until the merit of all of them combined; if so, the matter would not be worthy. Scripture therefore says, "because of this" — this teaches that each and every one of Israel was worthy that miracles be performed for his own sake.
