Four Kingdoms and the Four Names of Mount Hermon

"The Sidonians call Hermon Sirion." And what need was there for Moses to write this verse, and why did he do so? To make known the praise of the Land of Israel, for all the kingdoms wished to have a portion in the Land. For Hermon was a mountain, and four kingdoms ruled over it, and each and every one of them gave it a name of its own, and these are they: Hermon, Sirion, Senir, Siyon. And why was its name called Senir? Because it is the mountain of snow, for snow is always found upon it; and in the language of Canaan one says "snar" for snow.
