Jacob Bore Every Stolen Beast by Day and by Night for Laban

Midrash Aggadah, Genesis 31:39

"Stolen by day, and stolen by night" (Genesis 31:39). Whatever was stolen, whether by day or by night, was stolen from me, and I was liable for its safekeeping. Another interpretation: "stolen of me" (genuvti) — I drove them by the tail (zinavti) at dawn. What is the reason? Because his theft was lessened. And thus Jacob would say: I myself drove them, keeping close behind their tails, by day and by night.
