"And Cush begat Nimrod" (Genesis 10:8). For until Nimrod no man ate meat, until Nimrod came and would hunt and eat. Therefore it is said, "He began to be a mighty hunter" (Genesis 10:8–9). Another interpretation: "He began to be a mighty one in the earth" (Genesis 10:8) — for he made wars in the earth and defeated them and took kingship by force.
