Why Jacob Sent Joseph From the Valley of Hebron

Midrash Aggadah, Genesis 37:14

"Go now, see" (Genesis 37:14) — this is like the matter of "And Aaron saw" (Exodus 32:5). And what did he see? He saw Hur slain. From where do we know this? As it is said, "and he built an altar" (Exodus 32:5) — from the one slaughtered (mi-zavuach) before him. And this one [Joseph] understood it in his mind, yet did not refrain from going. "And the welfare of the flock" — from here we learn that a person must inquire about a thing from which he derives benefit. "And he sent him from the valley of Hebron" (Genesis 37:14) — but is not Hebron set upon a mountain, yet you say "from the valley of Hebron"? Rather, he went to fulfill the deep counsel (the deep plan) that the Holy One, blessed be He, set between Himself and his forefathers — that is, Abraham our father, who is buried in Hebron.
