"And he shall wash his flesh in water in a holy place" (Leviticus 16:24) — in the Chamber of the House of ha-Parvah. And five immersions were there on that day, and all of them were in the Chamber of the House of ha-Parvah, except for the first, which was upon common ground, atop the Water Gate. "And he shall come out and offer his burnt-offering and the burnt-offering of the people" (Leviticus 16:24): his burnt-offering precedes the burnt-offering of the people, and his atonement precedes the atonement of the people.
