How Dew Cradled the Manna Above and Below in the Wilderness

Midrash Aggadah, Numbers 11:9

"And when the dew fell upon the camp" (Numbers 11:9). At first the dew would descend upon the ground and spread out the ground, so that the manna should not become soiled with dust. And afterward the manna would descend. And afterward the dew would descend upon it and cover it, and it was like something placed in a box, as it is said, "And when the layer of dew was gone up" (Exodus 16:14). This teaches that they were not able to gather it until the layer of dew was removed from upon it.
