How Rachel's Sons Bring Down Esau Who Did Not Fear God

Midrash Tanchuma Buber, Ki Teitzei 16:1

"And you were faint and weary, and he did not fear God" (Deuteronomy 25:18). Faint from thirst, and weary from the road, "and he did not fear God" (ibid.). Rabbi Pinchas said in the name of Rabbi Shmuel bar Nachmani: It is a transmitted tradition (mesorat aggadah) that by the hand of the sons of Rachel, Esau falls, as it is said, "Surely the youngest of the flock shall drag them away" (Jeremiah 49:20). Why does it call them "the youngest of the flock"? Because they were the smallest of the tribes, for concerning this one "youth" is written, and concerning that one "small" is written. Concerning this one "youth" is written: "And he was a youth with the sons of Bilhah" (Genesis 37:2). And concerning that one "small" is written: "Behold, I have made you small among the nations" (Obadiah 1:2). This one grew up between two righteous people and did not learn from their deeds, and that one grew up between two wicked people and did not learn from their deeds. Therefore this one will come and fall by the hand of that one: this one, concerning whom is written "and he did not fear God" (Deuteronomy 25:18), will come and fall by the hand of that one, concerning whom is written "I fear God" (Genesis 42:18).
