Why the Metzora Brings Two Birds for His Slander

Midrash Tanchuma Buber, Metzora 8:1

[This shall be the law of the leper] on the day of his cleansing (Lev. 14:2). With what? With two living, clean birds. How is his offering different from all the other offerings? Rather, it is because he spoke slander; therefore Scripture said "birds," for they carry their voice, as it is said: "For a bird of the heavens carries the voice" (Eccl. 10:20).
